People see a counsellor or a therapist for all sorts of reasons: they may be worried, depressed, confused or experiencing difficulties in their lives. Counselling provides an opportunity to learn more about yourself and others in a safe, non-judgemental environment, and is often about becoming able to find solutions and make changes.
Your counsellor will respect you, will not judge you and will not tell you what to do. The service is offered to anyone, regardless of culture, religion, age, gender or sexual orientation. You may choose to end at any time. There is no obligation to continue if you do not wish to do so.
The number of sessions depends on the issues you wish to address. A limited number of sessions can be helpful in some cases, whereas in others, a longer period might be needed. This is discussed with your counsellor at the outset.
The initial assessment is an opportunity to discuss your particular difficulties and consider whether counselling would be helpful. At the end of this you may decide to return for counselling or you may wish to think about whether you feel it is right for you.
Having decided to come into counselling, appointments are usually arranged weekly and on the same day and at the same time. If you need more flexibility then this can be discussed. Each counselling session lasts for an hour.

... unlike some counselling websites, this site does not list in detail the range of problems people experience and how therapy can help. The reason for this is that we at Sapphire believe people are unique, and the difficulties that they face are also in some way unique to them. What is labelled 'depression' can be experienced very differently by different people.
So the focus is on how we work to address the difficulties people bring. And if you are wondering whether Sapphire can help you, we would recommend that you phone or e-mail us with your query, or book an initial assessment appointment, where your counsellor will listen to your story, and advise whether the service Sapphire provides is your best option.
If in your counsellor's opinion you would get better and more appropriate help from another service, then a referral can be made, or you will be informed of the best way forward for you.
